Newbury Ladies 1st 1 Wycombe Wanderers 5
Newbury Ladies First Team hosted Wycombe Wanderers Ladies in a Chairman's Cup tie.

It was a better start by Newbury, then it had been in the away league fixture between these two sides two weeks ago. But they still fell behind as early as the 12th minute, when a Wycombe forward capitalised on a weak pass to steal in and open the scoring.

The wet playing conditions were particularly difficult for both teams, with slick passing almost impossible on a heavy pitch. Newbury remained in the game however, but then suffered a further blow when Wycombe struck again for two nil after 33 minutes. That scoreline remained at the half time break.

Newbury returned for the second period aiming to half the deficit, but all such plans were swept aside when the visitors scored a third goal just three minutes in. But Newbury's character then showed, as they immediately bounced back with a goal of their own to make it 3-1 and keep the tie alive. It was a great team move, started by the impressive Lorna Kinder-Parr, who released Ellie Reed down the right channel. Her cross played in her strike partner Gabriely Da Silva, and Newbury's top scorer for the season made no mistake, slotting her effort through the keeper's legs.

The tie did then hang in the balance for the next 20 ,minutes, with Newbury pushing for a second, but Wycombe's defence stood firm to protect their two goal cushion. With Newbury's players tiring, the visitors were able to add a further two goals in the final 15 minutes, to give them a comfortable 5-1 victory and see their safe passage into the next round. Newbury are instead left to concentrate on their league campaign.
