New Milton Town 3 Newbury Ladies 1
Despite going in front, Newbury ladies fell to a 3-1 defeat away to New Milton for there first game of the season in the FA cup.

It was Newbury that kicked off the encounter, starting on the attack against the home side. But it didn’t take long for the home side to clear in from their end, which left the first chance of the game to fall to New Milton from a shot outside the box, but their effort could only find the arms of Newbury goal keeper Ellie Dyerson.

It was New Milton who had another chance to attack from a battle in midfield that left them to press against Newbury leading to a cross into Newbury area. But Newbury defence had no trouble clearing the treat with Lauren Hanson heading the ball strongly out for a corner.

The ten minutes later, the hosts were dealt a blow on the 20 minutes. From great play from Newbury. Newbury ladies skipper Becky Anderson ran down the right wing to pass to Shelley Foster in midfield, which she followed with a superb through ball for Rachel Allwright to make it 1-0 Newbury.

After the restart New Milton turned up their game by breaking through Newbury defence which pulled the goalie of her line. Luckily Newbury’s Sam Atkins battled her way back to clear the ball.

Just before half time Newbury were extremely unfortunate to give away a free kick to the home side 18 yd out in their own area. From the free kick New Milton levelled the score at 1-1. The ball dipped over Newbury goal keepers hands.

Going into the second half with both teams level. New Milton kicked off like they had something to prove. Within the first minutes New Milton did, from a break that gave them a soft shot wide that Newbury goalkeeper could not reach.

From that point in the game with the score line now 2-1. Newbury ladies weren’t going to give up without a fight. Newbury kept battling back and were given a free kick which Becky Anderson took crossing into the home side area perfectly to Ayala Truelove who headed the ball toward the goal but was unlucky enough for it to bounce on the top of the cross bar.

With 10 minutes left of the game Newbury were on the break from a ball over the top by Gabriely Da Silva that bounced back off the New Milton goalkeeper. Lauren Hanson ran on to shoot but it went over the bar. Newbury Ladies dreams of going through to the next FA cup round was over. Just before the final whistle New Milton scored their 3rd of game with a shot into the top corner. Leaving the final score 3-1 to New Milton.
