Newbury Ladies FC Development Team hosted Slough Town FC Ladies in the Plate competition of the Berks & Bucks County Cup. But Newbury found themselves on the wrong end of a one nil score-line at half time.
The visitors were unable to add their tally in the second period, and so Newbury were probing for an equaliser for long spells. They had to wait until as late as the 86th minute though, when finally Jazz Bird stabbed home a loose ball in the box, after a telling cross from Nicole Beesley. This made it 1-1, and with hardly anytime left on the clock, neither side were able to create a winning chance before the Referee blew for full time.
This Cup-tie would head straight to penalty kicks and Newbury Development put themselves into a great position, with their first three spot kicks all converted by Beesley, Lorna Kinder-Parr and skipper, Maria Rodrigues. And then with Newbury keeper Nicky Isted saving the first two Slough penalties, the home side was 3-1 up. Despite then Isted herself taking and scoring a penalty for Newbury, three other penalties were missed, and this meant that Slough Town were through to the next round, having just nicked ahead 7-6 in the penalty shoot-out. Newbury Development must now concentrate on their league campaign.
Player of the Match for Newbury Ladies FC Development was the industrious Samantha Richards.
