Match Report -- Season 2018-19
Southern Region Women's Football League Premier Division
Sunday 4 November 2018
AFC Bournemouth 8 Newbury Ladies FC First Team 0
Still missing several keys players due to either injury or work commitments, the First Team of Newbury Ladies FC were again on the road last Sunday when they visited AFC Bournemouth in the Southern Region Women’s League. And it was a disastrous start to the game for the visitors, as they fell behind to a very clinical Bournemouth attack within the first minute. Even from the re-start, the match was effectively turned into an ‘attack versus defence’ exercise, with Newbury unable to cope with the power and pace of the totally dominant home side.

Newbury only held out again until minute 13, when they then fell two nil behind. Two further Bournemouth goals were added in the first half, with their third a thunderous strike from 25 yards out, which would have beaten any keeper. So it was four nil at the half time break.

After the re-start, Newbury Ladies again showed good resilience and team spirit. They were defending strongly and goalkeeper, Kirstyn Hanson began to perform some real heroics in goal, making a number of point blank saves. Bournemouth did add a fifth however in the 63rd minute and they then went onto to score another three goals in rapid succession, as they took an eight nil score-line by the game’s 68th minute. It had been a five minute period that was soul destroying for Newbury, but they again rallied to play the match out for the final 22 minutes without conceding any further. But it was a bitter pill to swallow. For AFC Bournemouth’s players they had the satisfaction of maintaining their unbeaten start to the season and currently sit in second place in the Premier Division table, only behind league leaders Southampton FC due to having played one game less. Newbury however, remain win-less in the league this term.
