Match Report -- Season 2014-15
Berks & Bucks Womens Senior Cup Round 1
19th October 2014
Stony Stratford 2 Newbury 0
A severely depleted Newbury Ladies side suffered a two nil defeat at the hands of Stony Stratford in the First Round of the Berks & Bucks County Cup.

A goal in each half was enough to edge Newbury out of the competition. Strong winds on the day made conditions very difficult for both sides, but it was Stony Stratford on their home pitch, whom seemed to cope better. Newbury conceded a soft goal in the opening period, but then rallied to avoid dropping any further behind prior to the half time break.

After the re-start and with the wind now more or less behind them, Newbury started brightly, forcing several corners. It was from one of these that Newbury had their best effort when Kendall Gilmour sent a sweet header goal-ward. It agonisingly hit the underside of the cross bar, bouncing down on the goal-line, before a desperate Stony defender was able to clear the ball up-field. It was one of those moments when Newbury felt it just wasn’t going to be their day and so it proved when the home side scored a late breakaway goal to give them a two goal cushion and effectively seal the tie.
