| Marlow opened the game very positively catching the Newbury defence cold. Marlow were 2 up after just 4 minutes, first when the defence didn't clear a corner and then a misread bounce from a high ball cleared the back four leaving a one on one situation with the goalkeeper was well taken by the Marlow forward. It was 10 minutes before Newbury calmed down and started to gain possession.
Over the next 15 minutes Newbury created several chances. Lily Chub in particular had a number of shots save well by the keeper from opportunities created by Kendall Gilmour, Nicole Beesley and Naomi Purvis. Leanne Creese shot just wide from a free kick and Kendall also shot wide.
Marlow then had 2 opportunities to increase their lead but were foiled by a great tackle by Naomi and even better save by Chloe Hunt in goal.
Newbury resumed their domination of midfield resulting in another shot by Kendall before she was substituted by Emma O'Leary due to an injury.
The second half saw Newbury continuing to dominate with Marlow hanging on. Elli Reed had several shots as did Nicole who had joined Emma up front. 15 minutes into the half Sophie Self cleared up a rare Marlow attack.
The Marlow goalkeeper was having an excellent game dominating her box and it seemed that Newbury would not break down the defence when a penalty was awarded to Newbury for a deliberate hand ball by a defender on her own goal line. Leanne Saunders took the penalty with authority to make the score 1-2.
Newbury were really fired up now and minutes later Nicole was brought down from behind with only the keeper to beat for a second penalty. Leanne Saunders took the second penalty but this time the excellent keeper gambled that the ball would be in the same place and saved it.
