As Newbury were blooding several new players on the night, it was a good test against young opposition that were new to 11-a-side ladies football.

Newbury opened the scoring within 15 minutes, as Nicole Beesley raced through to blast a shot past the stranded Kingsclere goalkeeper, after good work by Katie Saunders and Jenni Petrylak. Kingsclere did force an equaliser quite soon afterwards with a lucky long range effort. Before Nicole Beesley restored Newbury’s lead firing in two more sublime finishes before the break to complete her hat-trick early doors.

With Newbury leading 3 - 2 at half time, they made several changes to their line-up at the start of the second half. Whilst there were many solid performances from Sam McConnon, Lorna Parr and Allison Bartholomew, with an impressive debut performance from Sam Atkins, Newbury added just one further goal in the second half, from a header by Bex Walker.

The match finished 4 – 2 in Newbury’s favour, with Reserves Manager, Tony McConnon delighted with the work rate and potential on show. The spectators on the night were treated to some wonderful Newbury passages of play, with several superb long range passes being sprayed around by Katie Saunders, Leanne Saunders and Sam McConnon in particular.

All in all a very good outing for Newbury Ladies ahead of the season opener for the Reserves Squad away to Aylesbury United Ladies this Sunday, 4th September 2011.
