Match Report -- Season 2011-12
FA Women’s Cup Second Qualifying Round
23rd October 2011
Newbury Ladies 0 Oxford Utd 12
Newbury Ladies came up against an in-form Oxford United on Sunday at Hungerford Town’s Bulpit Lane ground in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup. They came under intense pressure straight from the kick off, with Oxford opening the scoring after just 2 minutes, after Newbury’s defence failed to clear a crossed ball. Two quick Oxford set pieces followed, from which Newbury conceded two further goals. Leaving them 3 nil down after just 10 minutes.

Newbury battled in vain to stem the flow of Oxford attacks, with Nicole Beesley, Leanne Creese and Jenny Petrylak getting through a lot of work. However Newbury were not able to make any real attacking impact and it was no surprise when Oxford converted again on the half hour mark. Half time could not come quickly enough for Newbury, with the score at 4 nil.

The second half showed little improvement for the home side and the superior fitness levels of semi-pro Oxford really began to tell. A further 8 goals were shipped in the second period, including one own goal. The tie finishing as a heavy 12 nil defeat and Newbury’s FA Cup hopes ending for another year.
