| Newbury started brightly despite starting with 10 players and went ahead after seven minutes with a Karen Churchill penalty following a foul on Pam Hartley-Hall by the Reading keeper as she ran into the box.
Newbury continued to push forward with Tewsday Herbert and Gemma Ball attacking down both flanks supporting the midfield. Sue Hewett was showing great vison with her passing and new signing Lucy Rushden making her presence felt with some strong tackling and neat passing.
Karen Churchill almost extended Newbury's lead but was denied both by the Reading keeper and the woodwork. Reading equalised just before the break with a move down the right which culminated in a a shot into the box that keeper Carly Passfield had no chance with.
The second half started much the same but Reading were now more confident in attack and scored a second after Newbury failed to clear their lines. Newbury tried to come back straight away and Karen Churcjhill hit the bar after a powerful run at the Reading defence. Pam Hartley-Hall was busy up front. Sam McConnon and Lauren Sheldon were now forming a strong partnership at the heart of the Newbury defence and getting the ball forward whenever possible. Karen Churchill stormed forward with the Reading defence in retreat and again tested the keeper but unfortunately hit the post again.
Newbury had othe chances but couldn't get the goal they deserved. Karen Churchill was player of the match with special mention to Sue Hewett for her passing and Carly Passfield in goal.
