Newbury 1 Marlborough 2

Newbury went into this game confidently despite only having ten players available but Marlborough showed why they will be a force this season and went ahead early in the game coming through the centre of the park and goalkeeper Lauren Sheldon had no chance of stopping the shot. Newbury came back and had several chances to get back into the game but Marlborough scored a second to make it a uphill task for Newbury.
The second half started much the same and eventually Newbury pressure paid off with a Hayley Giles goal but despite constant pressure from Newbury they could not pull back that elusive goal.
Manager Tony McConnon said after the game that he couldn’t have asked for more effort from his players.
