Newbury Ladies Reserves Football
Match Report -- Season 2007-8
Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League
Division 3
21st October 2007
Newbury 6 Olney 0
The game started late due to the late arrival of the opponents. Newbury took real advantage of this scoring 4 goals in the first 15 minutes. First to score was Hayley Giles after a strong run down the left wing firing in an excellent shot past a static keeper. Hayley followed this up 4 minutes later with another unstoppable shoot from a similar move. Next Lorna Parr brought the ball out of defence and crossed to Lucy Ward who scored, this time from the right. Hayley was to complete her hattrick on the 15 minutes again making a strong run down the left wing. The crowd had more to cheer about when Sue Hewett placed a header just inside the post from a Stacey Richardson corner but the goal was disallowed for an infringment elsewhere in the area. Minutes later Pam Hartley really made it 5 at about the fifth attempt to get the ball over the line when the defence kept blocking the ball but failing to clear. Lorna Parr was to make the score 6-0 striking home another Stacey Richardson corner, this time from the right.

The second half saw no further goals. Olney clearly reorganised and played somewhat deeper in the second half. Newbury also seemed to go off the boil a little. They had several more scoring chances however. Pam was put through by Lucy only to strike the ball over the bar. Stacey and Kelly Saunders had long shots that just went over the bar. Pam shot just wide and Sue just failed to connect with another headed chance from a Kelly cross. Late in the second half Lauren Sheldon distinguished herself in goal with a really excellent save pushing the ball past the post to keep her second clean sheet in a row.

Manager Tony McConnon said the first half was the best football the reserves had played since he took charge but the second half was a learning curve.

Newbury reserves have now played 5 and won 4 of their league matches losing only to the unbeaten league leaders.
