Newbury Ladies Reserves Football
Match Report -- Season 2007-8
Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League
Division 3
14th October 2007
MK Wanderers Reserves 0 Newbury 8
Newbury started off brightly and were looking to continue their good start to the season. Stacey Richardson hit the post early on, following good work from Lucy Ward on the right wing, who was to go on to be a constant threat all afternoon.

Newbury however were not to be denied and Pam Hartley opened the scoring following good work from Hayley Giles, who then went on to add a second from a Lucy Ward crossfield ball. Hayley Giles added a third soon after and centre half Sam McConnon added a fourth with a turn and volley following a corner from Lorna Parr just before the break.

The second half started at a lower tempo and MK did try to reduce the arrears but Newbury soaked up the pressure and eventually played free flowing football which had been the pattern of the first half. Newbury went further ahead through Lucy Ward following a great crossfield pass by Stacey Richardson and a good through ball by captain Sue Hewett. Hayley Giles went on to complete her hat-trick soon after with a fabulous volley and Lucy Ward and Pam Hartley both added one more each to round off a very good all round performance from the whole team with special mention to Lauren Sheldon in goal who kept her first clean sheet. Tewsday Herbert and Rachel Butler also deserve mention for their constant hard work in defence and midfield respectively.

Manager Tony McConnon said this was a good solid performance against an MK side who didn’t give up .
