Match Report -- Season 2007-8
Southern Region Women's Football League Division 1
11th November 2007
Havant & Waterlooville 5 Newbury Ladies 1
Newbury struggled against a lively Havant and Waterloville team as for the second time in the last 3 weeks they traveled short of players and in particular without a goalkeeper. Kendall Gilmour again put on the gloves and did another excellent job for the team. Playing into the wind in the first half the plan was to try to keep the score down to a minimum. A deficit of 2-0 was a fair reward and there was reasonable hope of a result in the second half. Newbury played 2 up front and created a number of opportunities but the shots were generally wide of the target or comfortable for the keeper. The defence was much better organized than in recent weeks and gave Havant few scoring opportunities. A noteable contribution was made by Colleen Geis playing in an unusual position for her at left back.

The second half Havant had more ball and although Karen Churchill did an excellent job playing on her own up front, holding the ball up with all her skill, Newbury found it difficult to get enough players into scoring positions. When the score became 3-0 Sue Hewett took over in goal from Kendall in an attempt to provide more fire power up front. Kendall was rewarded with an excellent goal from a typically fine long range shot over the keeper’s head.
