After last weeks outstanding performance away to Burnham this game was a big disappointment. Newbury always seem to suffer when the pre-match warm up is not to plan. Long Lane arrived late and the referee wouldn’t state when the kick off would be. In the event the game kicked off on time with neither team adequately prepared. The game then started with controversy as Karen Churchill was scythed to the ground by a terrible 2 footed challenged by the keeper in the area. Her shot hit the post and the referee inexplicably gave a corner rather than a penalty. This was to be followed throughout the game by many odd decisions which affected both teams but more importantly ruined the game.

Early in the second half unfortunately saw Long Lane go 3 up. With nothing to lose Newbury reorganised and with Lisa Duncan in a more attacking role brought the score to 3-1. Again Newbury conceded an unfortunate goal before Lisa added a second to make the score 4-2 with 15 minutes to go. Try as they might Newbury were unable to add further goals.
