| Newbury opened the game at Burnham FC at a high tempo applying a lot of pressure on the Burnham goal. Almost the entire opening 15 minutes was played in the Burnham half. Newbury had 2 corners in as many minutes and had shots from Colleen Geis, Elli Reed, Kendall Gilmour and Karen Churchill all saved or wide of the goal. When Burnham won their first corner after 17 minutes it seemed that the initial pressure was to be in vain. However, after 20 minutes, Elli Reed put Caz Harkness through and she took a well placed shot low and just inside the right hand post past the diving keeper. 5 minutes later Newbury were to concede a goal when the ball was headed into the net from a corner which was conceded much against the run of play. At this point Burnham were clearly much encouraged and raised their game for the last 15 minutes before halftime. Where in the opening half hour Newbury had had complete control of midfield Burnham seemed in this period to have more players and were winning lots of ball.
Burnham opened the second half really fired up and for the first 5 minutes Newbury struggled to compete. It was Caz Harkness again who settled the ship with a long shot from 25 yards which bounced awkwardly in front of the keeper who was unlucky to see the ball go into the net. This lucky goal galvanised Newbury and had the opposite effect on Burnham. Kendall calmed the nerves a bit with a simple tap in at the far post and Elli probably put the tie beyond doubt with a well taken goal 15 minutes from the end. Newbury refused to slow down and Leanne capped a typically strong performance with a well taken goal to the keeper’s left and Caz sealed another highly influential game with a hat trick heading a Kendall corner over the keeper into the far corner of the net.
