Match Report -- Season 2006-7
North East Hants Youth League - Girls Under 14
12th November 2006
AFC Newbury 9 Camberley Town 0
A week after meeting in the cup the same teams met in the league but this time the result was not so close. The home team started well and were soon creating chances and midway through the half got their break through when good work by Hazel Beesley wide on the right put Victoria Summerfield in on goal with a pin point cross and she rounded the keeper and slid the ball into an empty net. Minutes later it was two when Beesley again crossed from the right and this time Victoria met it on the volley by the near post to increase the lead. The home team continued to threat and Camberley with a few players missing from the previous week’s cup game were not able to match Newbury on the pitch. It was three just before half time when Victoria turned provider as she picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and with a quick turn of pace she beat the two centre backs and as the keeper ran out she slipped the ball past him but as they turned both slipped and luckily for the home team Ruby Oliver was on hand to slide the ball home.

The visitors crumbled in the second half and when Honor Ramos swapped with Rhiannon Gailall and came out of goal, within minutes she had increased the lead with a brace of goals, with her first she showed good close control in the box dodging three tackles before firing home. Her second was a good solo run and as she entered the box she let fly with a thunderous shot which whizzed past the keeper head and nearly broke the net. Elizabeth swallow also got in on the act with two goals in quick succession. Her first was a cool finish with a shot which slid neatly into the corner from the edge of the box after a poor goal kick which went straight to her and the second a tap in from a goal mouth scramble after good work on the wing from Honor. Katie Saunders scored direct from a corner when the ball struck the back post and rebounded into the net to increase the lead further. Ruby Oliver grabbed her second and Newbury’s best goal just before the whistle when she volled into the roof of the net from 25 yards out completing a rousing performance and keeping the home team in contention for top spot. Newbury’s players of the day were Hazel Beesley & Kelly Summers who both in defence and midfield shone for Newbury.
