| Newbury kept their unbeaten run going with an impressive win over close rivals to keep them as joint league leaders in the premier league. The home team started well and had the visitors pinned in their own half and every time the ball broke loose it was a Newbury player who got hold of it. The home team dominated and it was only a matter of time before the first goal came. It soon did in the 5th minute when Lucy Mortimer went through she was one on one with the keeper and as the goalkeeper dived at Lucy’s feet she could parry the ball back into her path for a simple tap in. Sophie Harvey got on the end of a good move down the right and made it two when she finished with ease from close range with an excellent volley at the far post. Victoria Summerfield also finished from close range after she beat the offside trap and slid the ball past a stranded keeper into the bottom corner. A fine solo effort from Katie Saunders followed when she ran half the pitch as she broke down the right from the halfway line and as she entered the box she cut back inside and fired a low left foot drive into the far corner. It was five on the stoke of half time after good teamwork down the right again between Hazel Beesley and Chelsea Allen who’s cross was met by Lucy at the near post and she dually slid the ball home with a neat right foot.
Newbury’s keeper Honor Ramos, a spectator in the first half came out of goal for the second half and within a few minutes had increased the lead further when she was put through by Elizabeth with a well timed pass and she blasted home with some a ploom as the keeper was rooted to the spot. Sophie grabbed her second when a good one two with Elizabeth on the edge of the box put her clear through and as the keeper rushed out she coolly slid it between her legs to increase the lead further. The visitors to their credit never gave up and showed great team spirit and fought to the end. Lucy Mortimer grabbed her hat trick a few minutes from the end when a wicked shot by Ruby Oliver was fumbled and her pace again left her one on one with the keeper who she rounded and then rolled the ball into and empty net to complete the rout.
