Match Report -- Season 2006-7
Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League
Division 2 (South)
8th October 2006
Hillingdon Abbots LFC 0 AFC Newbury 7
Several usual reserve team players were unavailable for this game so Newbury fielded a somewhat different team including Kendall Gilmour just back from suspension and Kelly Stokes playing only her 3rd game since being injured nearly 2 years ago. Newbury played the first half down the hill with the strong wind behind them. The hill and wind was to have quite an influence on the game and it was important to take advantage of this in the first half. Newbury duly did this scoring six before halftime. The first was scored by Pam Hartley after 14 minutes picking up a rebound from the sixth corner in as many minutes. Kendall immedaitely added to this with a free kick from outside the box. A few minutes later Lauren had to leave the pitch with a badly damaged ankle and she was substituted by Sam Williamson. Karen Churchill killed off the game with a characteristic hat trick before halftime. The first a tap in from a Kendall cross from the left and the other 2 coming from crosses from the right by Leanne Creese. Kendall ended the half with a long shot from 25 yards.

The second half saw Hillingdon Abbots starting the half well putting a lot of pressure on the Newbury goal but as the half progressed Newbury's power and experience began to tell and Kendall sealed her hat trick with a goal after being put through by Karen. Pam had 2 late opportunities to add to her tally and was unlucky first with a header and then she put the ball just wide of the post when put through the middle of the defence.
