| Newbury continued their storming start to the season with an emphatic 7-1 win over Oxford City A. A result that takes them to the top of the league table. Karen Churchill went one better than last week by scoring 4 goals with a hat-trick in the first half. Newbury absolutely dominated the first half and frankly could have scored far more than 4 during the half which saw Newbury having 13 corners almost all of which could have led to a goal. It was left back Christina Brown who had the first shots on goal from outside the 18 yard box within the first 6 minutes, then Caz Harkness headed a corner against the bar. Karen Churchill, Elli Reed, Leanne Creese and Colleen Geis all had further shots before Karen opened her account on 22 minutes from a pass from Colleen Geis midway into the Oxford half. Karen was then on hand to pass the ball to Chelsea Starbuck for the second goal on 27 minutes. The entire midfield then had further scoring opportunities before Karen scored from a cross by Leanne. Karen was to complete her first half hat trick when Caz put a deft ball through the middle of the defence for Karen to beat the keeper with a left footed shot.
The second half saw Chloe Hunt come on in attack with Karen with Leanne dropping back into midfield. Newbury continued to create lots of scoring opportunities although Oxford were gaining more possession. 16 minutes into the half Leanne increased the score to 5 with a well taken free kick which the keeper was unable to save. In the next 10 minutes Newbury increased the score to 7when Elli headed in a Leanne corner at the far post and Karen scored her fourth from a pass by Elli. Oxford were rewarded with a goal when lack of communication between the defenders and goalkeeper allowed the attacker to nip in for the goal. There were still further opportunities in the closing minutes and Chloe was unlucky not to score in the final minute when the ball just went pat the left hand post.
