The start of second half was rather like the start of the first half with Shanklin getting back into the game which was pretty even. But as the half approached midway Newbury began re-exert the pressure as in the end of the first half. Caz, Kendall, Elli Reed and Kelly Stokes all had shots saved before Shanklin equalised somewhat against the run of play 5 minutes from full time to set up an edgy end to the half.

Extra time again saw Shanklin start competitively but Newbury eventually settled. Karen switched to centre forward with Leanne playing wide right and Colleen Geis moving into central midfield. This changed the game and Newbury dominated the second period with Karen taking full reward with 2 goals both from Kendall crossing in from the goalline on the left hand edge of the 18 yard box. The first of these was really well taken sqeezing the ball between the post and the keeper inside the 6 yard box. The second was a simple tap in with the keeper completely stranded by Kendall’s pass. In the final minutes left back Anita Kent was denied a penalty when she was felled inside the box after releasing the ball in the penalty area. The referee clearly didn’t see the offence.
