AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2006-7
FA Women's Cup 1st qualifying round
24th September 2006
AFC Newbury 2 Havant and Waterlooville 4
Newbury were hopeful that they would win this FA cup match against the team that they had played in a pre-season friendly back in July. They certainly had the opportunities to do so early in the game. Unfortunately like in the previous game Newbury errors gave Havant a couple of soft goals. The first of these after 18 minutes was quickly reponded to by Newbury who scored 2 excellent goals within a minute to give them a 2 -1 lead half way through the first half.. The first goal was by Kendall Gilmour, picking up a mishit shot by Elli Reed, the second by Karen Churchill from a through ball by Caz Harkness. Newbury then shot themselves in the foot 10 minutes later when the Newbury keeper was pushed over by a newbury defender to allow the ball to go into the net directly from a corner kick.

The second half saw a very competitive match which could easily have gone either way for the first 15 minutes but eventually Havant started to get the upper hand. Newbury were being pressed further into their own half and were unable to relieve the pressure. Havant made it 3-2 after 63 minutes but it was not until the 83rd minute that they killed the game to make the score 4-2.
