| Newbury continued their storming start to the season with an emphatic win over Soney Starford of the Thames Valley League in the Berks and Bucks Women’s Cup round 1. Newbury have now scored 23 goals in the first 3 competitive matches with Karen Churchill scoring another 4 to take her total to 11. Newbury opened with commanding football for Leanne Creese to score after 1 minute , sidefooting the ball into the net from a pass by Karen. Chloe Hunt, Leanne and Karen had further chances before Karen scored the first of her four goals when the keeper made a poor clearance. 3 minutes later Karen scored again. Chelsea Starbuck then created the 4th crossing from the right to Karen who laid it off the Elli Reed to score. Having clearly won the game in the first 20 minutes Newbury eased off the pressure a little before Karen completed her hatrick on 36 minutes when Colleen Geis had an excellent shot deflected onto the bar by the keeper but Karen was on hand to pick up the loose ball and deceptively put the ball into the net from within the 6 yard box. Newbury finished the half with further shots by Chloe Hunt, Caz Harkness and Leanne.
The second half started quietly before Colleen, now playing alongside Karen, scored. A minute later Colleen almost grabbed her second but the keeper saved well only to see Elli on hand to score her second from the loose ball. Chloe Hunt, playing left back, then scored a dramatic goal spotting the keeper on the edge of her box. Chloe’s shot from 40 yards was high over the keeper who had no chance to recover her position. Newbury then played a bit of route one football when Jane Pearcey in goal cleanne to Leanne who immediately passed the ball to Karen who ran on to beat the keeper for her 4th goal. 10 minutes from the end Kelly Doe scored a fine solo effort for her 1st goal in 3 years. Kelly, normally playing right back, had moved into midfield when Lauren Sheldon had come on as sub. Leanne then immediately made it 11-0 with a finely taken shot from a narrow angle over the keeper’s head.
