AFC Newbury Girls Under 13 Football
Match Report -- Season 2005-6
North East Hants Youth League - Girls Under 13
30th October 2005
Reading Girls 0 AFC Newbury 0
Joint leaders Newbury travelled to an inform Reading team, who were now second in the league. Newbury who took the field with five first team players unavailable due to half term, this meant that girls who had joined just this season were now thrust in to first team action. This showed and it was the home team who started the better and got their passing game going, the visitors struggled to get hold of the ball and gave it straight back when they did have it. Both teams settled down midway through the half and some end to end football ensued but for all the hard work from both teams neither created a clear chance as both defences stood firm. With nothing coming either way both strikers tried some long range shots but both goalkeepers were more than up to the task and saved easily. With possession shared both teams had numerous corners but both were unable to take advantage of them. Just before the break Reading created their first real chance but the low driven shot was well saved by Honor Ramos and then down the other end Charlotte Coventry found herself free at the back post with just the goal to hit but was tackled before she could get the ball out from under her feet and so the half ended goal less.

The second half carried on in the same manor with both teams playing good passing football. The visitors began to find their feet and had the home team on the back foot and chances soon came their way but with just the keeper to beat Sophie Harvey and Katie Saunders struck for goal but both failed to connect properly and the ball was easily collected. Honor then saw a well taken free kick from 30 yards, which was heading for the top corner well saved but the pressure was now mounting. Nicole Beasley began terrorising her defender and a few minutes later broke free and entered the box by as she tried to square the ball the keeper was alert and dived on the ball ending another attack. The home team began to fight back and with a big pitch the away team became stretched and within a few minutes Honor had made three great saves and kept the game level.

A draw looked on the cards with only a few minutes to go but the home team throw everything they had at Newbury but in Chelsea Allen the visitors had a player who was not going to be beat and she made clearance after clearance to keep their 100% unbeaten record up. It was a well deserved and very entertaining draw for both teams and Newbury’s player of the match went to Chelsea who stood out with a fine display of defending.
