Match Report -- Season 2005-6
North East Hants Youth League - Girls Under 13
9th October 2005
AFC Newbury 7 Sandhurst Town 1
Newbury girls maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the North East Hants League with another solid performance. The home team started well and were soon in their stride and it was only a matter of time before a goal came as the visitors failed to settle. The first goal did come when Ruby Oliver broke free on the half way line, she then flew down the right wing skipping by a few challenges on the way before firing into the roof of the net at the near post from a very acute angle, very much like Ryan Giggs against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi final some years ago. Ruby was now rampant and she again broke free minutes later and added hers and Newbury's second with a fine strike from just inside the box giving the keeper no chance. Sandhurst had hardly touched as Newbury defence and midfield were dominating everywhere and winning every loose ball. The home team continued to press and only poor finishing stopped them adding to the score. Just before the break Kellie Payne made it 3-0 with a fine solo effort when she dribbled past two defenders into the box and slotted the ball past the goalie into the far corner.

The second half continued in the same vein with the home team dominating and more chances soon followed. Sophie Harvey, Newbury's top goal scorer took the first opportunities and added a brace in quick succession when as usual she was on hand and not for the first time this season to finish off good passing moves. The first was a tap in at the far post from a well taken corner by Ruby Oliver and the second was a solo effort as she turned on a sixpence and fired a low drive into the net from the edge of the box. Katie Saunders made it six with a long range effort from the edge of the box, which flew past the keeper into the top corner. The scoring was completed when Honor Ramos was relieved of her goalkeeping duties by Chelsea Allen to immediate effect, when the ball broke to her 20 yards out she fired for goal and with a shot which looked like it had been fired by a cannon, the shot was unstoppable and the keeper could only stand and watch as the ball flew past her head into the net to complete a rout for the home team. To Sandhurst's credit they did not give up and they scored a late consolation when for the first time Newbury were caught short at the back and Chelsea was easily beaten by a well struck shot.
