Newbury got off to a winning start in their first game of the season in a new league. A win was on the cards from the start when the home team took the pitch with only seven players, which gave Newbury a two man advantage. The visitors soon dominated and saw many good chances miss the target or easily saved by the keeper. In the 10th minute Katie Saunders fired Newbury ahead with a fine solo run and a piercing left foot shot in to the top corner. This lead was very short lived when Camberley broke well and saw a weak shot fumbled by Honor Ramos into the net. Both teams then struggled to control the ball and possession until just before the break when Ruby Oliver broke free from the halfway, ran down the left wing before cutting in and firing into the far corner past an oncoming keeper from an acute angle to restore the lead by half time.
The second half did start better and a long throw in from Katie found Sophie Harvey whose clever flick beat the goalie to extend the lead. This again was short lived when the visitors failed to clear their lines from a corner and the difference was down to one again. The home team began to press for an equalizer and as they tired, Newbury began to take advantage and a quick brace from Lucy Mortimer first with a tap in and then followed up with a powerful header from the edge of the box from Ruby Oliver's cross. Lucy then turned provider with a long pass from the edge of her box to Sophie who was on the edge of theirs, who then turned on the spot to fire home. The home team to their credit did not give in and with only a few minutes to go their player of the match beat two defenders before slotting past Honor to give her a well deserved consolation goal to end an entertaining match.
