Match Report -- Season 2005-6
North East Hants Youth League Cup - Girls Under 13
6th November 2005
AFC Newbury 11 Hook United 0
The home team started well and adjusted quickly to the very wet conditions and within minutes had created their first chance only for Katie Saunders to shoot wide of the far post. Katie then turned provider first on 5 minutes when she put Sophie Harvey through to fire the ball home with an unstoppable shot and a few minutes later when she crossed from the corner, Sophie was again there to volley home. Newbury began to pin the visitors in their own half and even with rolling substitutes swapping regularly, the momentum was still maintained. The rain continued to pour down and the ball began to zip across the pitch making the game quicker and when Lucy Mortimer crossed from the right, everyone in the box missed the ball and Kellie Payne had the simplest of tap ins at the far post. In the 20th minute Charlotte Coventry found herself in the same position and as the keeper rushed out Charlotte slid the ball home with a sweet left foot strike. Katie again turned provider but this time with her left foot, when she crossed from the left and this time it was Lucy Mortimer who volley into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. With only a minute left in the half Sophie completed a fine, first half hat trick when she fired a low driven shot into a crowed box, which beat everyone including the goalie into the bottom corner.

The second half continued in the same vein with the home team dominating and more chances soon followed. Katie Saunders took the first opportunity with a long range effort from the edge of the box, which flew past the keeper into the far corner. She then added her second minutes later when she ran past two defenders and then rounded a diving keeper to slide the ball into an empty goal with her left foot. Katie then turned provided from the wing when she ran down the right before cutting in and then crossing the ball to the back post where Nicole Beasley found herself with the easiest of tap ins to get on the score sheet. The scoring was completed when Honor Ramos came out of goal, with immediate effect, when the ball broke to her 20 yards out she fired for goal and in the wet conditions the ball fizzed along the ground and it looked like a simple take for the goalie but the ball slid through her hands into the net to complete a miserable day for the visitors. Newbury's unbeaten record continued and saw them into the main draw of the league cup.
