AFC Newbury Ladies Reserves 1
Wycombe Wanderers Reserves 3
In a replay of last week’s league match against Wycombe Wanderers Newbury had an unfortunate 10 minutes early in the first half where they conceded 3 goals. Newbury opened the game positively winning the first corner of the match following a strong run down the left wing by Lucy Ward. Wycombe picked up their game and following lack of communication in the Newbury central defence and midfield quickly scored 3 goals in a period of 8 minutes. All the goals were well taken leaving Holly Randall in goal no opportunity to save. It looked at this time as if Newbury might concede more but they steadied the ship and started to compete again for the ball holding the score at halftime to 3-0 to the visitors.

The second half saw a much revived Newbury take the field. Lucy shot over the bar in the first 5 minutes before Elli reduced the deficit running onto a through ball and beating the keeper with a well aimed low shot. Rachel then made a break down the right to set up a good chance only to shoot across the goal. With Wycombe visibly tiring, in the final 10 minutes, Gemma Povey, on as substitute, and Lucy had further chances to reduce the lead. The final word came in the last minute from Holly who, with a rare second half Wycombe break, pushed the ball onto the bar with another excellent save.
