The second half was disappointing after the first. Both teams were tiring on the heavy pitch as the rain increased from the drizzle in the first half. The centre of the pitch was getting very wet and muddy and Wantage started to gain the upper hand with Newbury playing deeper and deeper. The Newbury defence coped well, giving Wantage few opportunities, but they were also not creating any significant chances. They were thus unable to take advantage when the Wantage keeper had to be substituted through injury midway through the half. A creditable result against mid-table opposition but the result could have been much better.
