AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2005-6
Southern Region Women's Football League Division 1
29th January 2006
Burnham Ladies 3 AFC Newbury 3
This mid table encounter was a game of 2 halves. Burnham played high up the pitch for the opening 15 minutes and Newbury found it difficult to beat the offside. Newbury changed tactics and rather than play the ball over the defence ran the ball through the trap. Caz Harkness and Kendall Gilmour gained two goals this way to put Newbury 2 up after 25 minutes. For the remainder of the first half Newbury were on top. To counter this Burnham raised the physical side of the game which, despite protests by the Newbury management, the referee ignored.

The second half Burnham changed tactics playing high balls over midfield which the Newbury defence could not cope with. Burnham scored after 5 minutes. To counter this threat Caz Harkness was put back into the defence which worked well until 15 minutes from time when Burnham equalised. Newbury looked like they would salvage a point but conceded a 3rd 4 minutes from time.
