Match Report -- Season 2005-6
Southern Region Women's Football League Division 1
27th November 2005
Banbury United 0 AFC Newbury 7
Newbury opened this league match with considerable pressure. Banbury rarely got out of their half in the opening period. The Newbury midfield was in control of this encounter and it was not unexpected when Kendall Gilmour was put through by Caz Harkness to open the scoring after 9 minutes. A minute later Kendall was on hand again but this time the shot was blocked. Elli Reed was unlucky not to score dribbling the ball right into the area from the left only to loose the ball at the last moment. Colleen Geis was desperate to score against her former club and a quarter of the way into the match almost scored from a cross from Leanne on the right wing. Caz again set Kendall up for her to put the ball into the back of the net. Leanne, Colleen and Kendall all had further opportunities before Elli put the ball into the net at the second attempt when after the first hit the bar. Banbury finished the half more positively and Newbury managed to keep a clean sheet when Gemma Povey cleared the ball off the line.

The second half saw Banbury come out with much more determination and Newbury had to work harder to maintain their ascendancy. Colleen, Leanne and Chelsea Starbuck all had shots in the opening part of the half while Chloe Hunt in goal made an excellent save. 20 minutes into the half Leanne broke through on the right to score to the keepers left. Newbury finished the game in charge with goals by Kendall and Elli who again scrambled the ball over the line for her second goal. The game finished with a spectacular over kick from Colleen to make the score 7-0 from an excellent cross by Kendall now playing on the right wing.
