AFC Newbury 0 Shanklin 4
On a wet and heavy pitch the game opened fairly evenly with both teams having equal possession. Newbury were then to concede 2 quick goals. The first from a well taken free kick which was headed twice before entering the top corner of the goal giving the Newbury keeper no chance. Two minutes later Shanklin cut through the middle of a static Newbury defence to score. With a 2 goal lead Shanklin packed their defence getting 8 players behind the ball much of the time. Nevertheless Newbury were creating chances. The Shanklin keeper saved shots from Colleen Geis and Chelsea Starbuck. Sue Hewett and Kendall Gilmour worked the ball down the right to get crosses in but these were dealt with by the keeper. Kendall then released Leanne Creese through the middle for the keeper to save well then finally Kendall was put through to score an excellent goal 5 minutes before halftime. This galvanised Shanklin who then won a series of corners. The Newbury defence held out till halftime to go in 2-1 down at the break.

Newbury opened the half brightly when Leanne released Chelsea who was thwarted by an excellent save by the keeper. Newbury then seemed to go to sleep and again conceded 2 simple goals. Newbury regained their composure with Caz Harkness, Kendall and Colleen all having chances to claw back the lead but it was not to be. The result hinging on 2 brief periods at the start of each half when Shanklin took their chances well.
