AFC Newbury 0 Henley 2

| Newbury held their first their pre-season game at Faraday Road against Henley from the Women’s Southern Region Premier Division. With several players playing their first game for Newbury the game was very useful. Henley opened quite dangerously with a cross from the right which hit the far post and rebounded clear of the goal. Newbury gradually got into the game to win their first corner after 15 minutes. This was followed by a quick break by Henley who caught the Newbury defence a bit flat footed to open the scoring with a well taken goal. Newbury started to apply more pressure but were unable to gain an advantage from the strong wind behind them which was taking the through ball away from the attackers. Following a scramble in the Newbury Area, Kendall Gilmour broke down the right passing to Leanne Creese who had her shot from close range well saved by the keeper. From a throw in Kendall was then unlucky with a shot just to the right of the goal.
Just after the start of the second 30 minute period a Henley shot caught the wind and the ball was carried over Chloe Hunt onto the crossbar. The rebound was struck against the post before Newbury cleared the ball. The game continued very evenly with shots from both teams going wide of goal.
The third period started with Henley having a shot wide on the left followed by a Newbury break with Lisa Duncan winning a corner. Caz Harkness and Leanne combined well for the Henley keeper to save from Caz. Leanne was unlucky not to score from a corner when the ball rebounded of the goalpost. Henley then scored after a shot from a rebound was saved by Chloe but the assistant referee judged that the ball was over the line. Chloe then made another couple of excellent saves before a final flurry by Newbury with shots by Kendall, Lisa and Colleen Geis.
