Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Tri-counties Conference
13th March 2005
AFC Newbury 2 Winnersh Rangers 2
In their final home conference game Newbury should have won by a hatfull. Unfortunately Newbury were unable to take all the chances that they created. With 5 minutes to go before halftime however, Newbury seemed to be in a comfortable position with a 2-0 lead. Amy Blethyn and Zoe Davie had both scored well taken goals and with the number of missed chances it could have been 6-0 or more. Unfortunately just before haftime Carly mishit a goal kick straight to a Winnersh attacker who without hesitation hit a truly fantastic shot from 25 yards low just inside the post. She could probably try for weeks and not repeat the strength and accuracy of the shot. This made the score 2-1 which did not reflect the half at all.

The second half saw much the same Newbury were constantly on the attack but Winnersh were playing high up the pitch and indiscipline meant that Newbury were often caught offside. They were still creating enough chances to put the game beyond doubt but failed to convert any. Winnersh were making the odd break and 5 minutes from the end succeeded in getting behind the Newbury defence to gain a 2-2 draw which they deserved for sticking at it and never giving up.
