AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1
27th February 2005
AFC Newbury 1 Chesham United Reserves 6
It is unclear whether this game should be described, from Newbury's point of view, as a catalogue of disasters or a comedy of errors. Chesham played a well organised game throughout while Newbury seemed intent on making it difficult for themselves. They conceeded a well taken early goal from a defensive mix up but Kendall Gilmour got them back into the game towards halftime. But just as Newbury seemed to be getting stronger they conceeded an own goal which came from lack of communication between the defenders and the goalkeeper.

The second half saw another early goal when Newbury failed to clear the ball and the attacker stepped in to score. The fourth goal came when the attacker kicked the ball out of Chloe's hands in goal, the referee judging that the ball was not in her control. A disheartened Newbury conceeded 2 goals more before the end.

Newbury however are still top of the league on goal difference but no longer have games in hand. With 3 league games to go and the league cup semi-final this weekend the league and cup double is still there to be taken.

Newbury's opponents, at home this weekend, are the league's second placed team, Denham Utd, in the league cup semi final.
