Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1
20th February 2005
AFC Newbury 6 Old Woodstock Town 0
Newbury picked up a much needed 3 points to restore their position as league leaders. By full time Newbury were eventually convincing winners playing against a team weakened through illness. However it took some time for Newbury to overcome a determined defence. Kendall Gilmour opened the scoring after 20 minutes and was on target again just before the half hour. Woodstock were determined to get players behind the ball which meant that Chloe Hunt, in goal, only touched the ball once in the first half. Sam Sowerby continued her scoring run to stretch the lead to 3 before half time.

At half time Sue Hewett came on for Kelly Doe as Newbury switched to 3 at the back which allowed Newbury to take a stronger drip in midfield. Woodstock continued to defend well but this could not prevent Kendall from securing a hat trick when the keeper saved well from a strong shot by Leanne Creese. Kendall was following up smartly and had a simple tap in. Minutes later Sam scored again with an excellent shot low to the keeper's right. Lorna Parr came on as substitute when Caz Harkness had to leave the pitch with a damaged arm. Finally after several attempts Leanne was rewarded with a goal to round off a 6-0 victory.

This Sunday Newbury are at home to Chesham United which gives Newbury an opportunity to stretch their lead as rivals Denham do not have a league match this weekend.
