AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1
9th January 2005
Old Woodstock 2 AFC Newbury 2
Closure of the A34 following an accident meant Newbury arrived late for this game and that, together with the long Christmas break, meant that Newbury were not firing on all cylinders in the first half of this game. In a disjointed performance they barely strung together 2 passes and were undone by a lively Woodstock attack early in the game. Kendall Gilmour restored some pride with a well taken goal midway through the half but Woodstock again took the lead before halftime.

Newbury reorganised in the second half switching to 3-5-2 with Lorna Parr coming on and playing in central midfield. Newbury were now winning much more of the ball and creating chances from both wings and through the centre. They were rewarded when Kendall struck home a fine goal from a cross by Lisa Duncan from the left wing. Newbury were now creating lots a chances and Cathy Ferris in goal had very little to do. However the Newbury attack persisted in shooting at the well positioned Woodstock keeper who was doing everything right to earn Woodstock a draw. Newbury at least retained their unbeaten league record this season.
