Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1 7th November 2004
AFC Newbury 5 Reading Girls Reserves 0
Newbury opened the game positively with a succession of corners and were unlucky not to score after 10 minutes when Caz Harkness drove the ball left footed into the side netting. Newbury continued to press and Leanne Creese had a shot saved by the keeper. Finally after 27 minutes Kendall Gilmour opened the scoring after a fine run on the left to the by-line, cutting in and shooting into the bottom right hand corner. 5 minutes later Kendall took a free kick from 25 yards, after Caz had been body checked, only to see the ball go just over the right hand goal post. Reading then came into the game and Chloe Hunt made a fine save and 2 minutes later Hannah Burgess cleared of her own goal line after a mixup in the Newbury defence. Just on half time Chloe made another good save to keep Newbury's 1-0 lead at half time.

Newbury opened the second half positively but did not seem to be able to finish. However after 20 minutes a foul within yards of Newbury's left hand corner gave Newbury a free kick which was taken quickly by Hannah. The ball was rapidly passed to Caz who lofted the ball over the defence to Kendall who slotted the ball home in the bottom left hand corner. This goal encouraged Newbury and had the opposite effect on Reading. Newbury won several corners and Reading just managed to scramble the ball off the line after one of them. Then after 40 minutes Kendall played a one-two with Leanne giving Kendall her hat-trick running in from the left. Kendall then returned the favour to Leanne who scored with minutes to go. Finally in the 91st minute a Reading defender conceeded an own goal under considerable pressure from Kendall.

Unfortunately this was to be the last game for Mette Sorensen who returned to Denmark earlier than planned. In the few weeks Mette had been in Newbury she had fitted in very well and everyone in the team is sad to see her go.
