AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1
Wycombe Wanderers Reserves 1 AFC Newbury 2
Newbury maintained their 100% league record in a somewhat unconvincing manner. Playing away their first away match of the season the visitors struggled to cope with a packed defence on a short pitch. Wycombe compressed the game effectively and their goalkeeper was quick of the mark to pick up the through balls. Nevertheless Newbury created several scoring chances while their goalkeeper had little to do. Newbury eventually got off the mark with a quickly taken free kick by Leanne Creese which left the Wycombe keeper stranded off her line and Kendall capitalised this with a smart shot over the keeper’s head. Newbury continued to attack and were rewarded when Lisa Duncan scored directly from a cross which again gave the Wycombe keeper no chance. Mette Sorensen playing her first game for Newbury was causing havoc down the right with her speed and she was unlucky to hit several shots into the side netting.

The second half saw much of the same but with the Wycombe keeper having an excellent game coming off her line smartly and making several excellent saves. Newbury were unable to capitalise further on their possession. Wycombe had few opportunities to trouble Chloe Hunt in goal for the second have but made the most of one of their few opportunities by scoring midway through the half. This certainly raised the tempo of the game but Newbury were unable to close out a game in which they had much of the possession in their opponents half.
