AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Thames Valley Counties Women's League Division 1 10th October 2004
AFC Newbury Ladies 11 Morris Motors 0
A devastating opening 25 minutes saw Newbury 6-0 up with hatricks for both Newbury strikers, Kendall Gilmour and Leanne Creese. This effectively ended this league game against Morris Motors. Newbury were attacking down both wings with Kelly Stokes and Leanne Creese coming from the right and Lisa Duncan and Kendall Gilmour from the left. Neither Morris full back could cope with the pace of any of these players and this left the Morris keeper with little chance against Leanne and Kendall who were scoring at will. The goals continued to come up to half time with Kendall and Chelsea Starbuck each adding another goal while Leanne added 2 more to make the score 10-0 at half time. Emma Theochari, playing in an unaccustomed central midfield role, and Chelsea were winning a lot of ball and the back 4 coped well with the sporadic attacks that Morris made during the first half. While Holly Randall, in goal, tidied up what little came her way.

The second half started well enough with Leanne adding her sixth after 5 minutes. Newbury then seemed to loose their way and Morris stuck to their task well, particularly so after the battering they had received in the first half. The Morris keeper had a particularly good half saving several shots, frustating the Newbury attack who were unable to extend their lead during the remainder of the game. Chloe Hunt, playing her first game of the season returning from injury, played the second half in goal but had very little to do.

This result emphasised the improvement in this team since last season when Morris won both of their league games against Newbury.
