Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Berks and Bucks Women's Cup Round 1 19th Sept 2004
AFC Newbury 12 Holmer Green 1
AFC Newbury dominated in a convincing win over Holmer Green in the first round of the Bucks and Berks County cup. Newbury were slow to start and for the first ten minutes with Holmer Green having most of the possession. However, once they began to attack, Newbury's strength in midfield and pace up front broke down the opposition’s defence. Kendall Gilmour put Newbury ahead after 15 minutes, with a low hard shot passed the keeper. This motivated Newbury, allowed them to settle into their game and put a lot more pressure on the opposition. Kelly Stokes provided a second only a few minutes later, controlling the ball well, on the edge of the area and striking into the bottom right hand corner. Within minutes Kendall had scored again to be followed by Leanne Creese who added to the goal tally with a well taken shot. Kendall achieved her fourth consecutive hatrick, with a calm header at the backpost, from a superb cross. Holmer Green were unfortunate to concede an own goal when a defender tried to head clear a well taken corner by Leanne Creese, to make it 6 before half time.

Newbury started the second half positively and Lisa Duncan added to the score within a few minutes of the start of the half. Lisa got her second of the game, and Leanne a hatrick 24 minutes into the second half. Substitute Lorna Parr scored a superb goal giving the goalkeeper no chance. Leanne closed the scoring with an extremely well taken free kick and her fourth goal of the game, from about 25 yards out, past the wall and well out of the keepers reach. Holmer Green scored a well taken consolation goal with a well hit shot low to the Newbury keeper, Holly Randall’s, left just inside the post.
