AFC Newbury Under 14 Girls Football
Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls 20th March 2004
Wolversdene B 4 AFC Newbury Girls U14 0
Despite the appalling playing conditions with a very high wind blowing from corner flag to corner flag throughout the game this was a good match played in good spirit. Both teams tried to play football and although the game was played more or less in one half most of the time both teams had opportunities to score at both ends. The first half Newbury chose to play with the wind and as a result dominated most of the play. Emma Cheralbrier, Sophie Mason, Rachel Butler and Jen Harkness all had scoring opportunities which were eirther saved or went wide. Newbury were unlucky to conceed a goal towards the end of the half when Wolversdene had a rare attack.

In the second half the game was reversed and the wind became even stronger. Wolversdene now had most of the play in the Newbury half and took the most of the opportunities to score 3 goals, but still Newbury had chances from typical breaks out of defence by Rachel Butler. Jen Harkness, now playing in goal, came up for a free kick which was just touched wide by the goalkeeper. Both teams should be congratulated on their efforts to play a competitve and enjoyable game in such difficult conditions.
