Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls 28th February 2004
Basingstoke Town 6 AFC Newbury Girls U14 1
On another very cold day, but without the strong wind of the last week, Newbury played without subs against the league leaders who have won every game and who have only conceded 3 goals this season. In the first half Newbury gave Basingstoke rather too much respect and they score 4 goals all from distance when they allowed the Basingstoke strikers room to shoot. However the Basingstoke defence was kept busy with Emma Cheralbrier working well with the ball played out from the Newbury defence.

In the second half Basingstoke started without their main striker and this gave Newbury the opportunity to really get into the game which was now very even. The Newbury defence was really working very hard and shutting out the attack. Georgie was having an exceptional second half and with Rachel making more postive runs into midfield this eventually led to an excellent goal by Jen Harkness with a powerful strike from at least 20 m. This really gave Newbury further confidence and although Basingstoke brought their striker back on they were not able to dominate the play for the rest of the game. Although Basingstoke scored 2 more goals this was an outstanding second half performance by Newbury.
