AFC Newbury Under 14 Girls Football
Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls 20th September 2003
AFC Newbury U13 6 AFC Newbury U 14 1
The opening game of the season was somewhat unusual as it was against Newbury U13 who are in the same league this season. The game was played at Speenhamland rather than travel with both teams to Down Grange in Basingstoke. As the U13 were a player short the game was reduced to 5-a-side and because the tmperature was so high it was also reduced to 25 minutes each way.

The game was played in god spirit and well contested. As several regular players for both teams were unavailable it gave the opprortunity for new players in both teams to feature. For the under 14 Sophie Gosling and Adele Gough played. The main difference between the teams was Rachel Mulvaney for the under 13 team who used her physical strength effectively to score 4 goals and also to set up the other 2 goals. At half time the score was 0-3.

Immediately after the start of the second half the under 13s went 4-0 up but this was followed 2 minutes later by a goal for the under 14 when Sophie Gosling received the ball in front of the gaol with only the goalkeeper, Carly, to beat. She took the goal well shooting low to Carly's left.

In the first half Amy played in goal and Jennie-Rae was in goal for the second half.
