Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls League Cup 1st Round 1st November 2003
AFC Newbury 4 Kingsclere 7
The game was played as 5-a-side as Kingsclere could not field a complete team due to the half-term break. The game started with Newbury having all the possesion but on the first break Kingsclere managed to score. However Newbury came back from this setback to see Jennie-Rae hit the post before scoring a well struck goal. Sophie Mason followed this with excellent shot which was well saved by the Kingsclere goalkeeper. Three minutes before halftime Newbury gained a well earned lead when Emma Cheralbrier, at the far post, tapped in a well taken corner by Jen.

The second half started disasterously with Kingsclere scoring three goals in the first three minutes. Newbury tried to get back into the game but there was another brief period midway through the half when Kingsclere scored 3 more to take a 6-2 lead. Newbury did not give up and for the final 10 minutes put constant pressure on Kingsclere and were rewarded with an excellent goal from Sophie Mason and a close range effort from Jen at her second attempt after her first shot hit the post.
