Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls 24th January 2004
AFC Newbury 5 Kingsclere 1
Rachel opened the scoring in this game after 3 minutes with a well taken goal, but Kingsclere struck back almost immediately with a goal which was initially not allowed for not crossing the line. However, after consultation with the opposition manager, who was in a better position to see, the referee allowed the goal. The next 10 minutes saw somewhat frenetic activity with action at both ends of the pitch until Rachel, who was proving a real handfull for the Kingsclere defence, managed to get the ball into the net from a narrow angle on the right. The ball just crossed the line having rebounded off the far post. Newbury settled down after this and the game always looked in their control with Rachel always dangerous up front requiring 2 defenders to keep her under control. Kingsclere did this well and the score remained at 2-1 at half time.

The second half continued as the first half ended with Lauren and Charlie growing in confidence in the Newbury defence. Kingsclere always looked dangerous on the counterattack and Charlie made one excellent interception midway through the half as the striker was about to shoot. Carly was positive throughout and commanded the goal area, coming out of her area intelligently. Zoe Davey had an excellent low shot, from outside the goal area, which went just to the right of the post. 10 minutes from the end Rachel scored her third goal to seal the victory. Kingsclere faded somewhat after this allowing Rachel to add two more before the end.
