AFC Newbury Under 13 Girls Football
Match Report Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 14 Girls 8th November 2003
Kingsclere 2 AFC Newbury 4
A much needed and well deserved win for Newbury this week. The first half was quite even with both teams' defences working well. Carly Passfield, playing in goal, was playing particularly well and was commanding the defence very positively. Newbury had changed their formation with Fi Tottey playing her first game in attack. It was not until the 25th minute that Newbury broke down the Kingsclere defence and Rachel scored the first of her four goals. This was followed, immediately before halftime, by another goal by her direct from a freekick, about 10 metres in front of the goal, after she had been obstructed.

With a two goal lead the second half was much more comfortable for Newbury who were playing much more like a team rather than the bunch of individuals that they have been on occasion this season. Attacks were being built from the defence with passing moves which pleased both the players and spectators alike. Midway through the second half Fi collected the ball out on the right and put an excellent pass through to Rachel for her hattrick and effectively put the game out of reach of Kingsclere. In the last 5 minutes Newbury relaxed and allowed Kingsclere to score twice but this was balanced by a somewhat freakish goal again by Rachel when a high ball which looked like it would go well over the net was caught by the wind and sneaked under the bar out of the Kingsclere goalkeeper's reach.
