AFC Newbury Girls Football Under 12
Match Report -- Season 2003-4
PHYL Under 12 Girls League Cup 2nd round 6th December 2003
Basingstoke Town Girls 2 AFC Newbury 3 a.e.t.
A thrilling cup tie, which saw the visitors start the better, although they had numerous attempts on goal, it was the home team who took the lead when they broke from the halfway line and with the goalie beaten slotted home to go 1-0 up. Newbury looked for the equalizer and were soon rewarded when Lucy Mortimer broke down the left and fired home from a tight angle to level just before the break.

The second half saw the visitors continue to press, but for all their good football and shots on goal, there was no way through. The game moved into extra time and it was the home team again who restored the lead when Newbury again were caught forward.

Newbury lay siege to Basingstoke’s goal, wave upon wave of attack was rewarded five minutes from time when Amy Lovelock again levelled the game with a shot right into the corner. More drama was to come when Nicole Clark swapped with keeper Honor Ramos and with virtually the last kick of the game Honor turned, shot and scored, sending Newbury into the semi-finals.
