AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2003-4
Berks and Bucks County Women's League 21st March 2004
Oxfam Women 0 AFC Newbury 3
Oxfam won the kickoff and chose to play up the hill first half. From the kickoff Newbury were immediately on the attack and for the first 10 minutes Oxfam did not get out of their half. Eventually they broke out of defence to give Linda Hunt in goal something to do. Newbury continued to attack but although they had several scoring opportunities they were unable to capitalize on their dominance of the play until Chelsea Starbuck, playing in an unusual role in central midield, scored an excellent goal striking the ball, across her body, into the left hand side of the goal giving the keeper no chance. Caz Harkness was unlucky not to score heading a Kendal Gilmour corner when with the keeper beaten the full back cleared the ball from the line. The rain then came down with the vengeance and with half time approaching the referee was clearly considering calling the came off as several areas of the pitch were starting to flood.

Halftime however brought out the sun and a drying wind and the game resumed. Newbury continued to press and with the wind behind them to counter the effect of the slope Oxfam seldom managed to get into the Newbury half. Eventually Kendall scored to make the game safe and she added another 4 minutes from time. This was Newbury's first clean sheet of the season.
