Match Report -- Season 2003-4
Berks and Bucks County Women's League 22nd February 2004
Heelands Rangers 6 AFC Newbury Ladies 0
For the second week running Newbury could only field ten players due to illness. This was not helped by the very strong arctic wind blowing against Newbury during the first half. Newbury started with good pressure, and were awarded a freekick just outside the area when Kendall Gilmour was brought down after controlling a through ball from Kelly Doe. They were unfortunate not to convert this into a goal. This was followed by some scrappy play in the middle of the pitch, where the midfield were lacking. Just over 15 minutes into the game Heelands played a well timed through ball to which the Newbury defence appealed for offside unsuccessfully, this left the unchallenged forward free to score an easy goal. This seemed to lift Heelands as they continued to attack. Newbury were lucky not to concede another goal. However Heelends continued to pressurise and a shot from the wing just passed under the keeper’s drive. Newbury reacted well and linked some neat passes which led to Chelsea Starbuck having a strong run on goal finishing with a shot that the keeper just managed to hold. Heelands battled on, and a looping shot from far out just beat Emma Paterson in goal, who sustained a back injury.

Sadly another injury left Newbury to start the second half with only 9 players and the harsh wind that faced Newbury in the first half failed to pick up. Leading to an early goal from Heelands. Emma's injury proved too much forcing her to leave the field, to be replaced by a willing goalkeeper from the opposition. Newbury however still managed to attack forcefully with some promising shots on goal. Late in the second half Heelands created another opportunity and scored another goal.
