AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2003-4
Berks and Bucks County Women's League 2nd November 2003
AFC Newbury 2 Heelands Rangers 3
Newbury started this game with considerably more organisation and determination than last week. With Leanne Creese moving into central midfield and Chelsea Starbuck switching to the right side of midfield there was a more balanced look to the team. Newbury opened the game with some positive football but often gave the ball to their opponents through hurried passing when they actually had more time. The Heelands defence was obviously very experienced and contained the Newbury attack, Heelands tactics were simply kick and chase and these were unfortunately successful in the first half catching Newbury early in the half and again midway through the half when a Newbury defender tripped an opponent to concede a penalty. Once again this left Newbury behind at the break.

In the second half Newbury's pace up front was beginning to tell and in truth Newbury should have won this game. Kendall Gilmour scored 2 fine goals and with 20 minutes to go the score was 2 all. However Heelands scored a third after a scramble on the edge of the penalty area left them with a simple tap in to win the match.

Newbury travel to Milton Keynes in 2 weeks to play Heelands Rangers again in the first round of the Berks and Bucks Cup.
